Sunday singing

I’m not with the weirdo.

Sometimes the world just knows what you need.

I was leaving work Friday after an exhausting week, and as I was walking to Izzy (that’d be my car, named after one of my two remaining great-aunts), a guy sitting at the stoplight suddenly cranked up his radio and started singing along … badly.

The song? “Eye of the Tiger,” which happened to be the song my high school’s band played at just about every game. (Yep, we were the Tigers, like so many other teams, at least one of which had the same colors, so our class’ homecoming float for that one game was confusing.)

Make sure you get that beat right, human!

But I also thought of Supernatural (yes, I’m a sci-fi/paranormal geek) and the outtake from the episode “Yellow Fever” that was added to the end of the episode just before the credits. Jensen Ackles was pretty goofy in the episode, which also has a great girly scream from him, but the best part is still that take where he lip-synced to “Eye of the Tiger” (in the real scene, his air-drumming is stopped by his brother tapping on the car before the intro finishes). The laughing you hear is the cast and crew.

I think probably most of us sing in the car, and for most of us, the results are nowhere near the quality of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke. Sure, some of us sing well, but others … well, they probably shouldn’t be allowed to sing in public … ever … unless it amuses the rest of us.

There’s a reason (besides protecting them) that most cat owners put their cats in carriers in the car. Cats are notorious critics of bad singing. And you thought Simon Cowell was mean …

Still, there are some people who should always sing in cars. This guy should never stop.
