We should never forget those who died for us.

Here in the U.S., it will be Memorial Day tomorrow. This year won’t be quite the same as usual, with people staying in (though some will get out, quite possibly sans masks and social distancing, taking a risk with everyone’s lives). For some it’s just another day off and a chance to catch up on a little sleep, but for a lot of us, it will be about remembering those who gave their lives so the rest of us could live in freedom (including the freedom to make really dumb decisions).
Even these guys are getting in on the act.

Now point me toward the neighbor’s dog.

I’m sure the pilot is a good boy too, but the dog is a very good boy.

Some of those who died in service to their country just happened to have four legs and liked skritches.

I just listened to Chief Justice Roberts deliver a virtual graduation address to his son’s high school. I thought it was good in general, and I especially liked it when he discussed the unusual difficulties graduates would face in the COVID era. He was clearly sympathetic to their life and career challenges, and he gave some guidance on how to surmount the obstacles facing them. Then, he contrasted them with the graduating class of 1942, going from the classroom into the military and factories to defeat Hitler in WWII. He noted they were called “The Greatest Generation” and asked, “What will your generation be called?”
It’s a question we all might ask ourselves.

Very true. I hope it’s not “The Entitled Generation.”

“The Entitled Generation”? Like the young woman who jokingly asked me why should she thank a veterinarian for her freedom. I was wearing a round button on my shirt with the following message on it: “If you like your freedom, thank a vet.”

I was much too nice to this young woman. If I had followed my instincts and responded as I wanted to, my response would have been unprintable and not at all nice.

I was tempted to tell this young woman to do something which is physiologically impossible.
