We know the big observance this week, Memorial Day, but it’s not exactly the sort of holiday that fits in with the idea of something fun for the Sunday post here.
However, I find a lot of weird holidays that fit the bill. I once wrote a Food section story on food holidays in August … there were a LOT. This time I found one I had never heard about that is celebrated every May 29: Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day.
This one actually has a little bit of a tradition to it. Back when people had larders, they would put linens in it one day a year for luck. Now people put pillows on the fridge.
And now I know why I’ve had such a run of bad luck: no pillow on the fridge. Dang it.
When Luke was alive, I always kept cereal boxes or other things on top of the fridge to keep him off of it. My mom didn’t at her house, so he could often be found lounging on top of her fridge. I have a feeling that if I had opted for a pillow instead of cereal boxes, he’d take it as an invitation.
Now, I couldn’t find any cats on pillows on the fridge, but enjoy these fridge-loving animals. And go grab a pillow.
