Sunday Thanksgiving prep

I have no idea how it’s already just a few days till Thanksgiving; I swear it seemed like last week was about three days long, and now it’s nearly Thanksgiving. WTH???

Mama’s dressing is simple and delicious, and she left the celery out because I don’t like it (that smell …). Image found on Salty Tooth.

This week will be spent mostly trying to complete five days’ worth of work in four days (which means I’ll be writing my column today). I won’t be doing Thanksgiving with the girls this year, and I can’t justify a six-hour round trip to my brother’s house, so I’ll just make some dressing and chicken and call it done (I don’t need much to make me happy, really). My prep can be done the day before (make the cornbread, let it dry out, then put the onions, sage, broth and other seasonings in and let it sit overnight; the chicken is cooked and in the freezer and can just be plopped right in the dressing pan).

Some people, though, will spend the next several days running themselves ragged for a big feast on Thursday (again, I don’t need much, soooo …). What they might forget is to prepare for the inevitable mischief by their critters, which may just mean starting all over again. (But hey, please don’t give your pets fatty meats or the bones because it might lead to an emergency vet visit.)

The lesson here is to put your leftovers up as soon as possible. And don’t leave your iPod, AirPods or other small but expensive gadgets where your dog can get to them. Image found on Pinterest.
And then you’ll keep your hairy face out of my plate, right? Right? Image found on Earn the Necklace.
Yeah, you might need repairs to the doors and/or windows too. Image found on cheezburger.
If you plan on doing this to your cat, stock up on antiseptic and bandages. Image found on Meowingtons.

No, kitty! You’ll get a little bit of white meat, and that’s it! Image found on cheezburger.

Step 2: Replace foil. Step 3: Put the pan somewhere the cat can’t get to it because it’s just another box to him. Image found on We Love Cats Forever.
A little bit of plain turkey (no skin, fat or bones), plain regular or sweet potatoes, plain green beans, apples (no seeds) and raw pumpkin are OK, but most everything else is off-limits. Image found on Pinterest.
Cats can teach us much. Resting up is a good idea, both pre- and post-Thanksgiving. Image found on cheezburger.
Somewhere you can’t get it, pups. Image found on cheezburger.
There WILL be a “present” in your shoe, on the carpet, or anywhere else it will cause a problem for you. Happy Thanksgiving! GIF found on Tenor.
