When I was in college, I sometimes worked reading the news at the campus radio station, KASU, which played both classical music and jazz. It was there that I first heard Leon Redbone, whose voice and sense of humor always made me happy. I would have loved to have seen one of his shows live but never had the opportunity.
Leon died Thursday at the age of 69 (or 127, according to the family’s whimsical death notice). While he was never a huge star, he was beloved by many.
Really, that’s all that matters. Rest in peace, Leon.

He was a character, and will be sorely missed.
