Sunday swing

This is most assuredly not me. One second I may be listening to Zuill Bailey, and the next Spike Jones. They Can Talk by Jimmy Craig.

I think most people know I’m not a music snob by any measure; my taste is very eclectic (but yeah, there’s some music I will just never get, like death metal). What is a guilty pleasure for some is likely just pure fun for me.

Exhibit 1: The Barenaked Ladies. I hadn’t listened for a while, and I forgot how much I love the humor in their music and the way they don’t take themselves too seriously. Maybe that makes them not cool, but I don’t care. I love “One Week,” so when I saw that PostModern Jukebox had done a 1940s-style jazz cover, I was stoked (I really love music that has a bit of a jazz feel to it, which Barenaked Ladies, Maroon 5, Nelly Furtado, etc., do). Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. And while you’re at it, take a gander at “Pinch Me,” another great BNL song.

When you write the way BNL writes songs, it tends to lend well to scatting.
There’s a bit late in the song that will make you say, “Oh, THAT’S why Brenda loves this song!” It’s not the only reason, but it helps.
