Eighty-five years ago today, a musical giant was born in tiny Kingsland, Ark. He would spend his childhood in Dyess, Ark., and eventually end up as perhaps the most iconic country music singer ever. His home in Dyess has been restored by my alma mater (Arkansas State) and is now a museum, having opened to the public in 2014.
My brothers and I grew up singing Johnny Cash’s songs. I still have a soft spot in my heart for some of his more humorous songs like “Boy Named Sue,” and “One Piece at a Time.” Are you really surprised?
Of course, we were all fans of “Folsom Prison Blues” and many of his more serious works. Considering that one of Johnny’s most famous songs was “Ring of Fire,” it seems appropriate somehow that some parts of the world today will see a solar eclipse known as a “ring of fire.” It’s almost like someone planned it. 😉

I have both listened to many songs by Cash as well as playing many of his songs over all of the years I have been a musician.
