Sunday sangin’

Regular readers know I went to see “Cinderella” a week and a half ago, but what you may not know is that in just the space of a few blocks in North Little Rock that night, there was a lot going on. Across and down the street from the theater in Argenta Plaza, ShinyRibs was playing, and just down on Broadway a bit, Tedeschi Trucks Band was playing the Simmons Bank Arena. If you were looking for good music and entertainment in North Little Rock on April 28, you really couldn’t go wrong. Obviously I wasn’t at either of the other shows, but I’ve taken the liberty of running down a couple of videos so we can enjoy them together.

This bluesy groove is just my style. Friend Sarah, I’m sure, is partial to “Bitch Better Have My Money.” 😉
Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks rock. It’s as simple as that.

  1. There is a ton of excellent culture/entertainment in Little Rock. We attended Ballet Arkansas at the new Art Museum Thursday, the ASO last night, and will attend the Little Rock Coterie Music Club concert today.

    • There is. I used to go to more of it when I did music and theater reviews. I don’t get out much anymore, partly because my social battery drains so quickly now.
I went to Trader Joe’s this morning, later than I usually do (I messed up the alarm), and while I missed part of the worst of the crowd, there were still more than twice as many people there than when I go at opening. I grabbed one of the mini ice cream cones after I put the cold stuff up and laid down. I’m done peopling for the day.

    • SusanR you are absolutely correct. Tedeschi needs twice as many drums as they have in this video (he said sarcastically and jokingly). Seriously, though, speaking from my own many years of experience as a musician, I am wondering why this band has two drummers and two drum sets when one of each would do nicely for the type of music they are playing.

  2. Besides plenty of opportunities to listen to music, there are jam sessions of various types and genres of music where you are welcome to sit in and participate if you can play an Instrument of Musical Destruction. For me, these jam sessions are good opportunities to experiment musically and learn new music and new songs.

  3. Speaking of hearing and trying to learn new music at a jam session, I am tempted to paraphrase one of the infamous signature lines from the original Star Trek series from the 1960’s: “It’s music, Jim, but not as we know it.”
