In the newspaper business, even when you get holidays off (in the newsroom, that would mostly be features, business and opinion staff; news and sports not so much), you have to do at least one extra day’s pages so that you can take that day off. That meant this past week was spent doing pages through Tuesday (usually it’s Tuesday through Monday). And since I usually write my column on Monday, I’ll be writing either today or tomorrow so I won’t be completely behind on Tuesday. Confused yet?
Yeesh. I need a day off after writing that paragraph. Get some rest and have some fun, folks!

Speaking of labor unions, I sure wish the writers/actors strike would be over. I totally sympathize with the strikers, but Netflix is filling up with junk, including some foreign stuff that’s just awful.
Love holiday weekends, but as Jim noted, the writers/actors strike is ruining tv. Getting down to reality shows, game shows, and two-year-old reruns. But I’m sure all these pups and kittehs don’t care. I’ll just hang with them. Have a great weekend!
Yes I am going to labor on Labor Day but I work in a hospital as the medical secretary in an intensive care unit. The nurses are glad that I will be there to help keep the unit running smoothly.
Since we have a strong employee union at this hospital, I will be paid a few dollars extra for working on an Official Holiday. I will work eight hours but I will be paid as if I had worked twelve hours.
If you want to watch a cat doing some hard work, just observe a female cat who has recently given birth to four or five kittens (speaking from that Great Teacher known as Experience).
I'm a retiree in his seventies. That may not be significant to many, since there is a bunch of us Baby Boomers around. However, in the year 2,000, when I received a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma, I expected to be dead in three to five years.
