Sunday what’s up

I grew up listening to Dolly Parton, but I hadn’t intentionally sought her out again a lot until the past few years. Every time I happen upon something from her, it reminds me how much I love Dolly, not just as a singer and songwriter, but as a human being who just wants everyone to get what they need and be happy.

The video for “What’s Up” was just released, and not only do I love her cover of the song, I then had to go back and find the original by the 4 Non Blondes (I was in college when it came out), and it’s as good as I remember.

And yeah, it sounds like it should be “What’s Going On,” but it’s not.

Enjoy Dolly’s version, with Linda Perry of the 4 Non Blondes (and the songwriter), followed by the original.

This woman has more than earned her halo.
Linda Perry’s voice is captivating.

  1. I gained a fondness and respect for Dolly due to Ken Burns Country Music series. Also enjoyed the mystery story she co-wrote with James Patterson: Run Rose Run. And I am especially pleased with her books-for-kids program, more important than ever during the current book-banning obsession.
