On this day in 1940, a member of Monty Python was born, and one whose artistic vision—surreal, goofy and thought-provoking—makes him, with John Cleese, my favorite of the troupe.
When I think of Monty Python, the animation by Terry Gilliam always brings a smile to my face and make me want to do some collages with found materials (he makes playing with scissors fun). It doesn’t hurt that he’s a pretty brilliant director as well. I really need to watch Brazil again …
Happy birthday, Terry (if I can call you Terry)!

I confess I was slow to warm to Monty Python and still enjoy British humor only in bits and pieces. But when it’s good and I get it, it’s usually brilliant.

Cleese and Gilliam are masters at what they do, especially if you like weird humor that’s also smart … heck, even the stupid stuff makes me laugh when it’s them doing it. 😉
