Sunday giggles

As an editor, you never want to make a stupid mistake, especially in a front-page headline.

When others do it, though, that’s fine. The rest of us can use a good laugh.

Hey, I’m not taking responsibility for these. It was the dog.

I think Brian is done evolving. But he could stand some more. Maybe then he’d stop acting like such a prat.

  1. These headlines remind me of another genre: courtroom Q&A. A favorite:

    Lawyer: Are you sexually active?

Woman: Naw, I jest kinda lay there.

Which, in turn, reminds me of some personal courtroom moments. Here’s one. Stop me if I’ve told you this before. (And good luck with that.)

I was seated with the jury, being questioned by the attorneys. The prosecutor looked at us as solemnly as he could and asked, “Do any of you think the government is evil and out to get you?”

This produced an embarrassed silence in the courtroom until I heard myself asking, “Do you mean all the time?”

I recall the judge slapping his thigh, with tears in his eyes from laughter. I was thanked and excused.

  2. Many years ago in some town in Iowa, the local newspaper had a headline on the front page which was supposed to start with the words “Countless Women” but they mistakenly left the “O” out of “Countless”.

  3. Brenda do you really want one of the dead bodies in the morgue to come back to life? As maybe one of the Walking Dead and/or a zombie?

    • I live in fear of hed busts, but I’ve been thus far lucky to only have a few, and not terrible ones.

The news side did have a dead man in graveyard hed sometime in the last couple of years, but when that’s where the body was dumped, what are ya gonna do? 😂
