Sunday chippy

I’m still battling back (don’t get anemia, kids; it’s no fun), so this will be another short one. Today, however, is National Tortilla Chip Day … yep, really. Funny that it follows my mom’s birthday, which of course is far more important.

Tortilla chips are good. They’re just not Mom. But Mom isn’t good with cheese sauce, so …

But they do stick around long enough to be crumbs you can’t really do anything with (nope, not making fish or chicken with them, and you can’t make me).

And still, with all that air, the chips are half-crushed when you open them.

Too bad I can’t have them with salsa … but that’s what bean dip and cheese sauce are for!

And that sauce, that’s nachos!

I like to add beans and chicken or pulled pork. Hey, it’s got iron in it!

This has nothing to do with tortilla chips, but I like Mumford & Sons, and this is the second release from their newest album, Delta. Seems like a good time to heat up some nachos, sit back, and enjoy.

  1. Glad you’re feeling better. I have one word for you: tortilla soup. We have a favorite Mexican restaurant in the Village, and I have ordered virtually nothing but tortilla soup with chicken for the past two or three years. I’m not sure everyone makes it as delicious as El Jimador, but it can’t be beaten.

Catching the ASO’s Ode to Joy this afternoon. It’s not tortilla soup, but it’s pretty good in its own right. (Not sure what “in its own right” means, but it sounded classy.) I predict this Beethoven guy will catch on.

    Keep getting healthier, Cuz.

    • Tortilla soup is yummy, indeed, as is chicken chili; I just have to be careful of the spice level, depending on how my stomach is doing. Lord, I miss being able to eat really spicy stuff.

ASO is always a delight, no matter what they play, but I love Ode to Joy. Give me that and some Vivaldi (Rachmaninov, Mozart, etc.), and I’m happy.

  2. Speaking of good music and the symphony orchestra……Ludwig von Who? Sergei Who? Father Tony? And just who was this Wolfgang Amadeus guy? (never heard of him)

      • Dead White European Males? At one of the performances of a mandolin and guitar group whom I was playing bass with, we played a ragtime piece by Scott Joplin. I introduced this piece by saying that we liked some variety in our music instead of just playing music by dead white European males only.

  3. Did you know that Sergei Rachmaninoff did not get any royalty payments for his famous Prelude in C Sharp Minor because he first performed this prelude in Moscow in September 1892. After the Russian Revolution, Rachmaninoff and his music were out of favor with the new Communist government. They refused to honor any copyright or publishing agreements which were arranged and made while Russia was ruled by the Czar.
