It’s still August, at least for three more days, and it’s still hot. Arkansas should be getting some rain from Hurricane Ida soon … which means that our usual awful humidity will get worse. Pretty sure that anytime I open the door for the next few days my glasses will fog up. Joy. This is me trying to keep cool.

I always liked the guy sitting in the refrigerator saying, “The recipe said to chill fo 30 minutes.”

You have no idea how many times I’ve had the urge, when passing the ice freezer on the way out of a store, to just climb in for a bit. 🥶

This is why I traveled north to Minnesota when I was on vacation last week. Yes it was cooler there. Also, this was the first time in my life I have visited Minnesota. I spent the night in Duluth and when I got up that morning and looked out of the window, I thought it was really foggy and cloudy. Instead it was smoke from the forest fires and it smelled AWFUL.

Forest fires do reek.

Some of these pictures reminded me of my Golden Retriever and how much he hated the summer heat and humidity. I bought a large box fan just for him to help keep him cool during the summer and he would spend most of his time in front of this fan. One day when the electricity was off, he was sniffing at his fan and looking sadly at me because he didn’t understand why it was off. No he didn’t like the smell of beer and he wouldn’t try it.

I don’t like the smell, or taste, of beer either.

Earlier this summer I had actually resorted to opening both doors of my side-by-side fridge/freezer and standing there. And once or twice opening those doors in the vague hope that the ceiling fan might spread the cool air. Finally getting my old HVAC system totally replaced has made a HUGE difference. And yes, your pictures are spot on. Love the ingenuity of the fridge kitty. And my kitty, too, looks eagerly for faucet drips.

Luke absolutely loved drinking from the kitchen sink tap, but no other. I wish I could afford what it would take to get central heat and air in the Crap Shack, but I can’t, so I just have to be ok with window and portable AC and heat. Had to drain the portable AC this morning after the power blipped out and tripped the sensor. That was fun. I need to go stick my head in the freezer. 😂

Speaking from experience, it is expensive to completely replace a central heat and air conditioning system even with a small house such as mine.

It is indeed. My house is about 1150 sq ft. But the HVAC was on it’s last legs, and you can’t get freon anymore.

Yep. I probably need to get the roof replaced sometime soon, and that’s where I have to focus right now. Being a homeowner is no fun.

How do you detach your head temporarily so you can stick it in the freezer? And is your head difficult to re-attach after you take it out of the freezer?

I’ve yet to be able to detach it, unfortunately. I just lean in with the door open. But if you figure out a way …
