We know the big observance this week, Memorial Day, but it’s not exactly the sort of holiday that fits in with the idea of something fun for the Sunday post here.
However, I find a lot of weird holidays that fit the bill. I once wrote a Food section story on food holidays in August … there were a LOT. This time I found one I had never heard about that is celebrated every May 29: Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day.
This one actually has a little bit of a tradition to it. Back when people had larders, they would put linens in it one day a year for luck. Now people put pillows on the fridge.
And now I know why I’ve had such a run of bad luck: no pillow on the fridge. Dang it.
When Luke was alive, I always kept cereal boxes or other things on top of the fridge to keep him off of it. My mom didn’t at her house, so he could often be found lounging on top of her fridge. I have a feeling that if I had opted for a pillow instead of cereal boxes, he’d take it as an invitation.
Now, I couldn’t find any cats on pillows on the fridge, but enjoy these fridge-loving animals. And go grab a pillow.

I like the periodic appearance of the picture of a guy sitting inside his open fridge, reading a book. He says, “The recipe said ‘Chill in the refrigerator for an hour.'”

Sometimes I wish I could do that. But that would require cleaning out the refrigerator, and I’m too lazy for that. 🤣

Excellent reminders that one’s pets are always watching and learning …

Since he weighed seventy pounds, Marlow the Golden Retriever was too large to fit inside the refrigerator. As long as I bribed him with plenty of raw beef flavor Pupperoni treats, he didn’t try to get inside the refrigerator.

Speaking of weird, unusual, and obscure holidays which I discovered during a search of the Internet, I would like to mention two of them. Since the writer of this blog is an ailurophile, Saturday, January 22, 2022 is supposed to be “Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day” and Sunday, February 27, 2022, is supposed to be the special day for supporters of former President Donald Trump: “No Brainer Day”.

Every day is “Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day.” It’s rude not to do so. 😸

Mine don’t ask – they just demand! I’m thinking of 3 every morning & at other times of the day even when there is wet food right there. 🙄

I once saw Luke put his paw in his bowl to make a hole, then turn around to demand food because he could see the bottom. 😹

It sounds as if poor little Luke thought he was going to waste away to a small furry shadow of himself.

If I was eating something with meat in it, Marlow was not too proud to beg for some of it. When he was seven years old, he would try to tell me that he hadn’t had anything to eat for eight years. If he was five, he would try to tell me that he hadn’t had anything to eat for six years.
