Some of us are making it back to the office after more than a year of working remotely, and that was my plan for this week. But there are still preparations going on for everyone’s return, and it’s just going to be much easier and quieter if I stick with remote working for a little while longer. Plus there’s the whole wearing-pants thing, soooo …
But when I do finally go back, I worry about how I’m going to deal with people again, without the option to eat whatever I feel like making instead of eating whatever I packed in my lunch even if I don’t want it, and without caring if I fart when I walk to the bathroom because there’s no one else here to hear me.
Some companies are reviewing the advantages of remote employees. Offices and the related utilities cost money. Probably some will need to be on location but maybe not all. Think about it.

I’m hoping for something hybrid for at least some of us, where we don’t have to be in the office every day, but that’s not up to me. They’re trying to figure out if they want to space desks out, add cubicles, etc. I have an office, but I can hear everything, even with my wonky hearing, so it would be too distracting (as well as all the people I’ve missed talking to in person) to go in before they’ve finished.

Fortunately, we’ve all learned that new dance: Zoomba. Shake your bootie.

Since I am classified as “Essential Personnel” at the hospital where I work, that means I am expected to show up for work on the days when I am scheduled to be there. I cannot decide whether or not to pity or envy the people who are able to work remotely from home.

I’m not essential. I’m entertainment. 🤪

When I first looked at the title of this, I thought it said: “Sunday Socialism”. That is what I get for trying to read it without using my glasses.

My son, an IT architect, is wrestling with the same problem. He can work just as well from home, but employers have this thing about their people showing up. So glad I’m retired!

I really think there will be changes in a lot of industries that have proved they’re able to get along without loads of office time.
