I spent Saturday afternoon with friends watching Argenta Community Theater’s next-to-last performance of Jonathan Larson’s “Rent,” which is why if you happen upon one of us in the next few days you may catch us singing.
In honor of that musical, enjoy a few memes on the theme of rent.

Kittehs! Always put a smile on my face.

I don’t allow people or things to live rent-free inside my head unless I can use them or make them useful to me.

Since “Rent” supposedly is loosely based on the 1896 opera La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini and the opera was based on the 1851 book “Scenes de la vie de Boheme” by the French novelist and poet Henri Murger, I think it would be correct to say that “Rent” has some distinguished ancestors.

I said “distinguished ancestors” instead of “extinguished ancestors” because both “La Boheme” and Murger’s book are still alive and well even if Puccini and Murger are both dead and gone.

I’ve always liked the observation that holding a grudge against someone or hating someone is letting them live rent-free in your brain. And in most cases, they don’t even know that or suffer from it.

I heard somewhere that holding grudges is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.
